Simple Hibiscus Syrup — A Bar Staple

Hibiscus syrup is one of those bar staples that makes everything it touches more interesting. The deep crimson color, the tart floral flavor — it's a powerhouse ingredient.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup dried hibiscus flowers
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

  1. Combine water and sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir until sugar dissolves.
  2. Add dried hibiscus flowers. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and let steep for another 5 minutes.
  4. Strain through a fine mesh sieve. Discard the flowers.
  5. Let cool completely before using or storing.

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

How to use it

Add a splash to champagne, stir it into lemonade, or use it as the base for a hibiscus margarita. The possibilities are endless!
